Working together with area Xavier alumni, start-ups, hospitals, universities, national organizations and healthcare professionals to solve problems in population health

Cincinnati, Ohio: On Thursday, June 11th, 2015 Xavier Center for Innovation (CFI) will host, along with its co-sponsor Intel-GE Care Innovations™, the first of several national Healthovate! Summits. The purpose of Healthovate! is to give healthcare leaders an opportunity to share their expertise and engage in conversations with other leaders from other industries about their challenges with a goal of finding new solutions. Cincinnati start-ups—MedaCheck, Batterii, Strap, and Red Pigeon Interactive—as well as University of Mississippi Medical Center/Telehealth, and IXL Center have partnered with the CFI for the event as well.

More than 75 pre-selected invitees have registered for the all day event, which will be held at the Xavier Center for Innovation on Xavier’s campus. Participants represent more than 40 area start-ups hospitals, universities, national organizations, healthcare professionals, and Xavier alumni. Each attendee will receive an advanced copy of Healthovate!, a published compilation of more than 50 case studies that detail a variety of efforts, systems and technological innovations created to improve the healthcare system. The book will be available for purchase on amazon.com in July.

“Bringing healthcare leaders from one community together is so beneficial in working effectively to address problems, but also to inspire progress and innovation,” said Sean Slovenski, Chief Executive Officer of Care Innovations. “Together, we will learn and discuss ways to advance population health programs and make them more accessible to meet the needs of patients right in their homes, where so much of life happens. Healthovate! will provide a great forum for important conversations, and I believe it’s just the beginning of work that will continue after the event.”

“Our mission at the CFI is to use innovation to solve complex problems. I can’t think of a more important challenge facing our society than how we keep people healthy, while reducing costs and improving overall well-being,” said Shawn Nason, Chief Innovation Officer at Xavier University. “By bringing together a diverse community of people, all committed to health, I am confident we can find meaningful solutions and innovative technologies and systems that will transform the healthcare industry—not to mention better ways to educate and prepare students to work in and lead healthcare in the future.”

“The Jesuit traditions of superior academics and care for the person are the basis for everything we do and Healthovate! supports and reinforces ‘The Xavier Way’ and our mission as a University,” said Michael J. Graham, S.J., president of Xavier University. “We’re proud to partner on this project here in Cincinnati and throughout the U.S.”

Cincinnati is the first location of several national Healthovate! Summits. There will be similar events in Boston (July 31), Chicago (Oct 5), and Nashville (Oct 28).
